A video spread on social media claiming that a female Chhatra League  leader was raped in a public place and then left on the street  in Banani, Dhaka. But Dismislab’s fact-check shows that the original video is staged and it appeared on an Indian YouTube channel named “Oma Mejem” on December 3.

The video in question spread from a personal Facebook profile on December 5. Its caption reads, “Three people raped a female Chhatra League leader in Dhaka’s Banani and left her. Today, it’s happening to our daughters; tomorrow, it will happen to yours. Your actions bring your results. Remember. Our time will come too.”

In the comment section, one person wrote, “Remove the big shots, save the country—Joy Bangla.” Another user wrote, “Situation like Pakistan has started.” The video drew more than 148,000 views and over 600 shares.

Several personal Facebook profiles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), pages (1, 2), and groups (1, 2, 3) also posted the video. The same claim spread on Instagram as well.

Fact-check of a viral video falsely claiming a female Chhatra League leader was raped and abandoned in Banani, Dhaka, while the original footage was actually a staged comedy video published by an Indian YouTube channel.
Details section of the Indian YouTube channel “Oma Mejem,” which originally published the staged video later shared with a false rape claim in Dhaka’s Banani area.

The 18-second video shows a woman rolling on a street in broad daylight. A water bottle and a pair of sandals lie scattered beside her. A man speaks in the background. While describing the scene, he says, “Dhaka, Banani, inside an alley, three youths raped a Chhatra League leader and left. Look, the sister lies helpless. Yet no one is picking her up. Everyone, share this quickly.”

Dismislab checked multiple keyframes of the video through reverse image search, leading to a YouTube shorts video. Except for the added background narration, the circulated video fully matches a clip published on December 3 from a YouTube channel named “Oma Mejem.” The title of that video reads, “Napati Hazoari bibary Bodo funny video 🤣”… Hashtags under the video include comedy, shorts, funny, bodo comedy.

Further verification found several other videos of the same woman on the channel. Most of the videos follow a light, humorous style. The channel’s “Description” section shows that the account, under the username @Bodo_credit, was opened on May 21 this year. The channel operates from India.

Additionally, no Bangladesh media outlets published any reports on the alleged rape on Dhaka’s Banani on or around the date.

Therefore, the claim that the video shows the rape incident of a Chhatra League leader has no factual basis.
