Narendra Modi's statement on Sheikh Hasina's return is fabricated
A video has circulated on Facebook claiming that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke in online media about Sheikh Hasina’s return to the country. However, verification shows that it is false. On July 24, 2026, Narendra Modi posted a video to normalize the situation during protests over question paper leak allegations in India. That video has been edited to include a different voiceover and circulated with the new claim.
On November 2, a video was posted from a Facebook page named “Sheikh Hasina Online Memorial Parliament.” Written in the post was, “Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks in Indian online media regarding Jananetri Sheikh Hasina’s return to the country.” In the 32-second video, translating Narendra Modi’s speech yields, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will definitely go to Bangladesh. Security teams of the Indian Army, US Army, British Army, and Russian Army will return to Bangladesh in December. I assure you, the people of Bangladesh. In addition, I am warming Bangladesh that if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returns, no terrorist activities should be carried out. I am warning.”
Upon observation of the video, it is seen that Narendra Modi’s lip movements do not match the speech spoken in Hindi. Up until the publication of this report, the post has been shared more than 1,300 times, and the video has been viewed more than 111,000 times.
The video was posted with the same claim from multiple (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) profiles on Facebook.

To verify the authenticity of the video, conducting a reverse image search using keyframes yielded a video published on June 24 on Narendra Modi’s channel on YouTube. The headline of the video was, “Fast-track courts, severe punishment: PM Modi announces major step against paper leak mafia.”
Written in the description of the video, “Announcing strict action against paper leaks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the government is bringing a new bill providing fast-track courts and exemplary punishment for those responsible. He said the government’s top priority is to ensure that even a single academic year of students is not wasted, for which exams will be conducted and results declared in record time.”
In this video, Narendra Modi’s clothing, the Indian flag behind him, and the artwork on the wall show an exact match with the circulated video. Additionally, Narendra Modi’s lip movements and gestures in the video match the circulated video. The video is also found on Narendra Modi’s X account.

Multiple Indian media outlets (1, 2, 3) published reports on the video. A report published by The Hindu on July 24 states, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (July 23, 2026) promised that ‘more strict’ action would be taken against paper leaks as CJP-led protests continue over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination. In a self-recorded video shared on X, the prime minister announced that the Union Cabinet will take up a draft Bill for Fast-Track Courts and stringent punishment for offenders. He said, ‘I have issued directions to departments to set up Fast-Track Courts’.”

That is to say, the circulated video is an edited version of a video posted by Narendra Modi regarding question leaks.
