A photocard carrying the Jamuna TV logo has spread on Facebook, claiming that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman stated that his party will not participate in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election without the participation of the Awami League party, whose activities are currently banned. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found Jamuna TV did not publish any such card.

The photocard, which contains a picture of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman, was shared on December 29 from a personal Facebook profile. The text on the photocard, created by imitating Jamuna TV’s media card, reads, “BNP will not participate in the election without the participation of the Awami League.” At the bottom of the card, the Jamuna TV logo, website address, Facebook page, and YouTube channel links appear. A Facebook page and multiple groups (1, 2) also posted the same photocard with the same claim. In the post’s description, the user wrote, “Alhamdulillah.”

Fact-check: Fake Jamuna TV photocard falsely claims Tarique Rahman said BNP will not join election without Awami League participation

To verify the authenticity of the photocard, Dismislab checked Jamuna Television’s Facebook page, including its photocards and posts published that day, but found no such reports of media cards.

Dismislab also contacted the news outlet, whose editor of the New Media Department, Rubel Mahmud, confirmed that the photocard is fake.

This means, the photocard circulated in Jamuna TV’s name is fake. Jamuna TV did not publish any photocard quoting Tarique Rahman as saying that BNP would not participate in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election without the participation of the Awami League.

Notably, Dismislab previously published fact-check reports (1, 2)  on fake photocards circulated in Jamuna TV’s name.
