Two videos circulating on Facebook falsely portray Bangladesh Army members saying the army was wrong in its role on August 5.  However, a fact-check by Dismislab reveals that the videos are created using AI.

On October 5 and October 6, two videos were posted from a personal Facebook profile with the caption, “On August 5, the Bangladesh Army was wrong. Army. Bangladesh.” In the 10-second videos, a person wearing an army uniform is heard saying, “I am Sadik, a member of the Bangladesh Army. On August 5, we were wrong. For the past two years, Bangladesh has not been well. For any need of the country, we are ready to face any situation again.” In another video, another individual named Rasel says similar things.

Up until the publication of this report, one video has been viewed more than 83,000 times. The other video has been viewed more than 59,000 times.

The videos have been posted from multiple Facebook profiles and groups (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

To verify the image’s authenticity, its various visual elements were first examined. In one video, on the nameplate on the army uniform, the word “Bangladesh” is seen written instead of the army member’s name. Some words are seen written in Bangla letters on the military ribbon, which carry no meaning.

For further verification, the videos were tested with Google’s AI detection tool SynthID. Google SynthID’s results stated, “Analysis has shown that the audio and video of the videos have been created or edited with the help of Google AI technology.”

Verifying with another AI detection tool, Hive Moderation, also shows that the probability of the videos being created with AI is 99 percent.

That is to say, the videos circulated with the claim of being statements by army members were created with AI.
