A video has been circulating on Facebook claiming to show an attack on the residence of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. However, a fact-check by Dismislab found that the video is old, actually showing an attack on Awami League leaders’ house in Savar in February this year.

The video claiming to show the vandalism of the chief advisor’s Chattogram house began spreading on Facebook on November 6. The 52-second clip shows a crowd gathered in front of the main gate, as some start vandalizing the property with sticks and rods as several others look on. In the background, a narrator describes the scene.

The narrator claims that angry residents of Chattogram have attacked Dr. Yunus’s house. He also says that after Yunus came to power, the country fell into chaos and that his house in Chattogram would soon be demolished. The man is also heard saying that a large number of army personnel arrived at the scene.

The caption of the video reads, “The mass people of Chattogram attacked the residence of the illegal Yunus government. The people of this country will not let a single brick remain in his name anywhere in Bangladesh.” The date “06/11/2025” on the video suggests it is a recent event.

The same video was shared from several personal Facebook IDs and groups (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and also on Instagram with the same claim. A 54-second identical clip was shared by several other Facebook pages and profiles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) with the caption, “Local Tawhidi Janata [aggrieved mob] attacked the ancestral home of Chief Adviser Yunus in Chattogram. The mob he created is now attacking his own house. Just a matter of time…..”

A reverse image search using keyframes from the video revealed a video report published by Boishakhi TV on its YouTube channel on February 7 this year. The 1:46-minute  video was titled, “Attack on students and public during vandalism of Awami League leader’s house in Savar.” The 7-second to 1-minute mark of that video matches exactly with the viral clip claiming to show an attack on Dr Yunus’s house.

For further verification, Dismislab also conducted relevant keyword searches and found several online (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)  and video reports (1, 2) published at the time about the incident.

According to a report by Prothom Alo, on the evening of February 6 this year, angry students and locals attacked and vandalized the ancestral home, “Raj Manjuri,” of Manjurul Alam, general secretary of Savar Upazila Awami League, and his brother Fakhrul Alam, joint secretary of the same unit in Hemayetpur. When the attackers tried to set fire to the building, some residents stopped them. As arguments broke out, over a hundred locals chased and caught some of the attackers and beat them.

In short, a video from nine months ago is being circulated with the false claim that Dr Yunus’s residence in Chattogram came under attack.
