A claim has recently spread on social media saying that the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum will be held together on February 5, 2026. Dismislab fact-checked the claim and found that the Election Commission (EC), the sole authority to announce national election dates, made no such announcement. EC’s Public Relations Department confirmed this to Dismislab.

A Facebook page named Katherkella posted a photocard specifying the election and referendum date. Both the card and the caption of the post read, “Parliament Election: February 5, 2026. The referendum will also be held on the same day. Schedule: First week of December.”

Several personal profiles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), groups (1, 2, 3, 4), and a page on Facebook posted the same claim. None of these posts cited any source to support the claim.

Dismislab contacted Md. Ruhul Amin Mallik, Director (Public Relations) and Information Officer of the National Election Commission, said, “The Commission has not yet announced any specific date.”

The Election Commission has also not announced any date for the referendum.

On November 1, Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar told journalists at Patuakhali Circuit House that the schedule for the upcoming national parliamentary election would be announced in the first week of December, and voting would be held in February next year.
