Information circulated about the HSC exam pass rate is false
A photo bearing the Somoy TV logo has recently circulated on Facebook regarding this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination results. It is being claimed that the HSC pass rate is 53.23%. However, Dismislab’s fact-check has found that the photo is edited. The results of this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations have not yet been published.
A photo was posted from a Facebook profile on October 28. It shows a television broadcast ticker bearing the Somoy TV logo. The latest news item in it reads, “HSC exam results to be published on October 31st, pass rate 53.23%.” The post read, “2026 HSC pass rate 53.23%”. The post’s caption cited HSC examination results from 2021 to 2026 and spoke of a steady decline.

The post has drawn more than 250 reactions. In the comments, one person wrote, “If the results were authentic, even this many wouldn’t pass, it would be even lower, given the state of the children’s studies. They will submit blank scripts, fail, then agitate to be passed. They have patched it together to make it 53.”
The claim of this year’s results has also been posted from multiple Facebook groups (1, 2) and pages (1, 2, 3, 4). The claim has spread across these pages and groups citing Somoy TV (1, 2, 3, 4). One of these posts has been shared more than 70 times.

Upon examining the image, Dismislab noticed several inconsistencies. Multiple fonts are used within the same sentence visible in the image. In addition, the conjunct part of the word “October” appears somewhat distorted and unclear. Afzal Hossain, assignment editor at Somoy TV, told Dismislab that the image is fake.
Furthermore, the results of this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations have not yet been published. A notice signed by Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, on October 24 announced that the results would be published on October 29, but the date was later postponed to October 31.
In other words, false information about the HSC exam pass rate is circulating on social media using an edited image.
