False video claiming to show Dubai nightclub scene
Recently, a video circulated on social media platform Facebook claimed to show a nightclub in Dubai. However, verification reveals that the original footage is from a Yazidi community festival in Turkey. This misinformation was spread by a Facebook page named ‘Dhorla TV’.
On May 20, ‘Dhorla TV’ posted a reel with the caption “What happens in Dubai’s nightclub.” The bold text on the video clip read, “What do rich Sheikhs do all night in Dubai nightclubs!” The video shows several young women coming out barefoot through an entrance. Meanwhile, a background audio in Bangla explains, “Beautiful young women are coming out one by one from this nightclub in Dubai. The Sheikhs of Dubai can enjoy all night here in exchange for money.”
To find the original source of the viral reel, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search of the video’s keyframes. The oldest post of the same video was found on TikTok, uploaded on October 15 of last year. Verification confirms that the location is a religious shrine of the Yazidis in the village of Magara, Sirnak Province, Turkey. Last year, a traditional Yazidi festival was celebrated here. As part of a religious ritual, the young women seen in the video were walking down the temple gate, dressed in their traditional white attire for Yazidi women.
More misleading reels from ‘Dhorla TV.’
More reels with false claims can be found on the ‘Dhorla TV’ Facebook page. On May 5, a reel was posted showing a person meditating in heavy snowfall with caption said “Meditate against The God.” The added background audio addeds, “This European guy is meditating in protest against God in minus seven degrees Celsius temperature.” Verification revealed that the person visible in the video is yogi Satyendra Nath, a monk from Himachal Pradesh of India, meditating amidst snow and wind in the Himalayas.
The Times of India reported that Satyendra Nath was on a month-long trip to the Seraj Valley in February 2024, where he performed various forms of meditation and yoga in challenging weather conditions. The video was captured by his disciple Rahul, who often accompanies him and documents his practices. Rahul stated that Satyendra Nath was in a deep meditative state at a temperature of -55°C and did not feel any discomfort or cold. He also mentioned that Satyendra Nath has the ability to control his body temperature and metabolism through his yogic powers.
A few days earlier, on May 15, ‘Dhorla TV’ shared a reel claiming that the recent most-talked businesswoman accused of consumer fraud, Rubiat Fatima Tony, was crying in a Facebook Live. However, the incident of her crying on Facebook Live actually occurred on September 20 of last year and had already been covered in a fact-check report.
‘Dhorla TV’ has more than eleven thousand likes and over two hundred and fifty thousand followers. According to the ‘page info’, the page is managed by two Bangladeshis. Its bio states, “Contemporary news content page.” Earlier this May, after a fake video titled “A young woman giving a religious speech in a mosque” was spread from this page, a fact-check report was published about it.
