A video recently spread on Facebook with the claim that BNP gangsters attacked an Awami League-supported Member of a Union Parishad for not giving allowance cards and cuts from the rice allocated to the local poor people. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that the original video is from Doboka in Assam, India. The footage shows a clash that took place on August 4 this year at a village panchayat in Doboka following an argument over old issues.

On December 27, a video was posted from a personal Facebook profile. The caption reads, “Where does such brutality end? BNP terrorists entered the Union Parishad and openly attacked an Awami League-supported member for not giving cards and a share of rice. The media does not broadcast such news. One day, justice will happen on the soil of Bangladesh.” Below it, the hashtag Step Down Fascist Yunus was used.

Fact-check: Video falsely claimed to show BNP activists attacking an Awami League member in Bangladesh actually shows a violent clash at a village panchayat meeting in Doboka, Assam, India
Screenshots of Facebook post circulating with the false claim.

The same video spread with the same claim from multiple personal Facebook profiles, groups, and pages (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). In the 23-second video, several people can be seen beating a person in public using plastic chairs. Others move forward to stop them.

To verify the claim, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search using several keyframes from the video. This search led to a report published on August 4, 2025, by the Indian news outlet India Today NE. The headline reads, “Assam: Chairs go flying as panchayat meet turns violent in Doboka; several injured.” The first 23 seconds of the 3-minute 45-second video used in that report exactly match the video spreading on Facebook.

The report states, “A village-level meeting convened at the Jamuna Gaon Panchayat in Doboka, Assam, turned violent following a heated altercation between the relatives of an elected panchayat representative and a group of local residents. The clash reportedly stemmed from disputes related to past allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities. Eyewitnesses said the confrontation quickly escalated, with individuals attacking one another using plastic chairs as weapons. Several people sustained injuries of varying severity during the incident. The meeting was part of a government-mandated initiative, where local administrations had directed newly elected panchayat representatives to hold special gram sabhas to discuss the implementation of various welfare schemes. However, what was intended to be a constructive community interaction devolved into chaos as old grievances resurfaced, triggering physical violence between the two sides.” The same video also appears on the media outlet’s YouTube channel.

The same video appears in reports by multiple Indian media outlets (left) and in social media posts (right).

Further searches using relevant keywords show an online report by Prime 24 Seven. The X account of Assam-based video news outlet News Daily 24 also uploaded videos of the same incident on August 4 this year.

Notably, when misinformation earlier spread in India claiming that the incident involved a political clash in Bihar (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), fact-checks by multiple organizations (1, 2 3, 4) confirmed that the original incident took place at a village panchayat in Doboka, Assam, India.

Therefore, the video, which circulated with the claim of an Awami League member being attacked, does not come from Bangladesh. Footage of a clash at the Jamuna Gaon village panchayat in Doboka, Assam, India, is spreading with a false claim.
