Fake photocard claims Home Minister commented on filing cases over all mob attacks since July uprising
A photocard carrying the logo of Nagorik TV has recently circulated on Facebook, claiming that newly appointed Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed referred to the July 2024 uprising as a ‘mob’ and said that cases could be filed over all mob incidents that took place since 5 August 2024. However, a fact-check by Dismislab found that Nagorik TV did not publish any such photocard.
The photocard was posted on February 18 from a personal Facebook profile. It features a photo of newly appointed Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. In the background, several people appear holding sticks. The headline on the photocard reads, “Cases can be filed over all mobs, including 5 August: Home Minister”.
The Nagorik TV logo appears in the upper middle part of the card. At the bottom left, the date “February 18, 2026” appears, and on the right, the website name “nagorik.com” appears.
In the first part of the caption, it read , “Victims will be able to file cases against all mob justice, looting, and killings committed since August 5, 2024 – I welcome this declaration of the Home Minister. To establish the rule of law, the culture of impunity must break. If the state truly remains neutral, then whoever the offender may be, identity or political backing cannot act as a shield.”
The photocard drew 26,000 reactions, 2,500 shares, and more than 2,000 comments. One user wrote, “Police murder and police station looting cases must be taken.” Another commented, “We express thanks, but it must be proven in words and actions.”

The same photocard was posted from multiple personal Facebook profiles (1, 2, 3) with the same claim.
To verify the authenticity of the Nagorik TV photocard, Dismislab reviewed the media outlet’s verified Facebook page for the photocard and posts from February 18. No such photocard or report link appeared on the news outlet’s verified Facebook page. Its official website or YouTube channel did not run any such news either. The font used in the circulated photocard also differs from the font used in Nagorik TV’s original photocards.
However, while reviewing the outlet’s Facebook page, Dismislab found a photocard published on February 18 containing the same image of the Home Minister. The headline of that photocard reads, “The days of mob culture are over in the country: Home Minister”.
A relevant keyword search found a report published on February 18 in the daily Prothom Alo. The report states, “Newly appointed Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced that ‘mob culture’ (the practice of organized attacks by unruly crowds) will stop completely in the country. On his first working day after taking oath as minister, he told reporters at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat that afternoon, ‘Mob culture is over. Mob culture cannot continue in the name of pressing demands. However, meetings and rallies can take place to press legitimate demands, and memorandums can also be submitted. We want to continue the democratic process.‘”

Dismislab also contacted Nagorik TV for further verification. The news outlet’s Chief News Editor, Nabin Hossain, confirmed that the circulated photocard does not belong to Nagorik TV.
In short, the home minister did not make any comment regarding filing of cases over all mob attacks since August 5, 2024. The photocard circulated in the name of Nagorik TV linking the minister to such a claim is fake.
