Fake Jamuna TV photocard circulates old photo with false claim
A photocard claiming that Bangladesh Army Chief Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman met with India’s ambassador has recently spread on social media, appearing to carry Jamuna Television’s logo. However, verification by Dismislab found the photocard was fake, and the photo of the two men used was old. Jamuna TV also confirmed to Dismislab that it did not publish any such news.
On August 31, several Facebook profiles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) posted a photocard showing Bangladesh’s current army chief Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman and former Indian defense secretary Ajay Kumar. The photocard text read, “Emergency meeting of Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman with the Indian embassy.” The caption of the post stated, “🔴Breaking News 🔴 The leader is coming, everyone get ready ✌️✌️.” As of writing this report, the post had been shared more than 70 times.

The photocard displayed the date “August 31, 2025.” Its design, with Jamuna Television’s name and logo, closely resembled that of genuine photocards produced by the outlet.
To verify the authenticity, Dismislab reviewed Jamuna TV’s Facebook posts from August 31, and found no such photocard or news report on the outlet’s page that day.
Dismislab also contacted the media outlet directly. Its Joint Editor of New Media Mursheduzzaman Himu identified the circulated photocard as fake, saying, “This is not our card. We did not do such news.”
Verification further shows the photo used in the photocard is at least three years old. It was taken on August 11, 2022, during the annual defense dialogue between India and Bangladesh. The photo appears in an August 11, 2022, report by Indian newspaper The Hindu. According to that report, the photo shows then Principal Staff Officer of Bangladesh Armed Forces Division Lt. Gen. (now Gen.) Waker-uz-Zaman with India’s then defense secretary Ajay Kumar.
The caption under the photo in The Hindu read: “On Aug. 11 in New Delhi, Indian Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar greets Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh, Lt. Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman. | Photo: PTI (Press Trust of India).”
The same photo was also published in a report by Bangladeshi outlet Dhaka Tribune.

In short, the photocard did not originate from Jamuna Television, and the photo it used was old and from a different event.
