Video from a Vietnamese festival, not an Indian protest
A video was spread on Facebook with the claim that people across India have united against the Modi government. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that the scene is not from India. It is a video of a festival in Vietnam.
On October 13, a video was posted from a Facebook page named “BNB Channel36 International.” The 16-second video shows a large crowd of people filling a road at night. A building of the Korean hypermarket chain “LOTTE MART” is visible alongside. The video’s caption claimed, “The people of all of India have united agai/nst the Modi government. Remove Modi, save India” (verbatim).
As of the publication of this report, the video had received more than 54,000 reactions, been shared more than 4,000 times, and been viewed more than 800,000 times.
The video spread with the same claim from several Facebook pages (1, 2) and personal accounts (1, 2, 3).
In its investigation, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search on keyframes of the video. This found an exact match with a 19-second video uploaded on September 19 from a personal Facebook account. The caption of that video was written in Vietnamese: “Hết pháo hoa rồi, ai về nhà nấy thôi =)))”. In English, this translates to “The fireworks are over, everyone go back to their own homes.” The video’s location was tagged as a city in Vietnam called Bac Giang.

To verify the video’s location, a relevant keyword search was conducted. This led to a news report on a Facebook page named “LOTTE Mart Vietnam.” The report was about the opening of the Lotte Mart Bac Giang branch. As sources, it cited the Bac Ninh newspaper published on July 30 and the news bulletin of Bac Ninh Radio and Television. At the 14-second mark of the report, the structure of the Lotte Mart building, the trees beside it, and the company’s signboard match the scene in the viral video.

To confirm what the gathering seen in the circulated video was for, a relevant keyword search was conducted. This found a video on YouTube. The video’s description read, “This video captures the atmosphere of the ceremony announcing the decision to establish Bac Ninh city, held on the evening of September 19.”
Vietnamese media reports show that on August 24, 2026, the country’s National Assembly approved the proposal to establish Bac Ninh city. On the morning of September 19, a ceremony announcing that proposal was held in Bac Ninh province. That evening, a special event was held at February Third Square in Bac Giang. The event was broadcast live on Vietnam Television’s VTV1 channel.
In other words, the video is not from India. It was filmed in Bac Giang, Vietnam, on September 19.
Dismislab has previously published fact-check reports on misleading videos circulated in the name of protests in India.
