Fake News24 photocard claims Shadik Kayem wants PR system
A photocard featuring the News24 logo has been seen circulating on Facebook. It claims that Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President Shadik Kayem said they do not accept this election and want the PR (proportional representation) system. However, Dismislab’s fact-check revealed that News24 did not publish any such photocard.
On February 13, the photocard containing an image of Shadik Kayem spread from a Facebook group. The post caption reads, “What do you say🫵” . The text inside the photocard says, “We want the PR system, we do not accept this election.” The News24 logo is placed on the upper right side of the circulated photocard. Below the photo used in the card, “February 13, 2026” is mentioned. At the bottom of the photocard, the addresses of News24’s Facebook, YouTube, and website are given.

As of writing this report, the photocard drew 33 reactions, eight comments and five shares. One user commented, “Pakistani, you don’t need to accept it.” Another user stated, “This is why Jamaat faced a landslide defeat.”
To verify the photocard’s authenticity, Dismislab checked the photocards and posts from February 13 on News24’s official facebook page and website, but found no such photocard or report.
However, News24 published a photocard using the same photo with the headline, “Power transfer through a staged election conflicts with the spirit of the Martyrs”. Additionally, upon reviewing Shadik Kayem’s Facebook, Instagram, and X profiles, no information was found regarding demanding the PR system or boycotting the election.

Dismislab also spoke with News24’s Senior Sub-Editor Sajjad Hossain Sabbir, who told Dismislab, “This is a fake card. News24 did not run any such news or cards”
In other words, the photocard circulated in the name of News24 is fake. Shadik Kayem did not make any comments demanding the PR system after the results were announced.
