Robbery footage circulated as Islamist attack on Hindu woman
A video is circulating on the social media platform X with the claim that Islamists are torturing a Hindu woman in Bangladesh. However, a verification by Dismislab reveals that the footage is of a robbery at a residence in Feni, and that the victim in the video is one Shahana Akter.
On February 25, an X handle named Crately Media posted a video with a caption, “A Hindu woman attacked by Islamists in Bangladesh.” In the 31-second CCTV footage, a woman opens the door, and two individuals—one wearing a white cap and shirt, the other wearing a blue t-shirt and a blue cap—push the female homeowner and force their way inside. The logo of Jugantor is visible in the top right corner of the video.

Conducting a reverse image search using the keyframes of the video brings up a video report published on August 20 on the YouTube channel of Jugantor. The headline of the report was, “Robbery in broad daylight holding a female homeowner hostage in Feni.” There is an exact match between the circulated video and the CCTV footage used in the Jugantor report. Searching with relevant keywords yields multiple (1, 2, 3, 4) reports published about the incident.

A report published by Prothom Alo on August 20 stated, “This scene was captured on a CCTV camera during a robbery yesterday, Wednesday morning, at the residence of expatriate engineer Md Nuruzzaman on the second floor of Rehan Mansion at Muslim Bhuiyan Bari in Mohipal of Feni city. Later, it also spread on social media today, Thursday morning. The name of the victimized woman in the video is Shahana Akter. When contacted, she told Prothom Alo that two robbers entered the house, held her hostage within just 15 minutes, looted 1,060,000 taka and gold ornaments, and fled.”
That is to say, footage of a robbery at a residence in Feni is being circulated with the claim of a Hindu woman being tortured by Islamists. And the name of the victim is Shahana Akter.
