Image of prayer congregation in Chattogram floodwaters is AI-generated
A photo has been circulated in multiple social media platforms claiming that people are offering namaz (Islamic prayer) standing in the floodwaters in Chattogram. However, a verification by Dismislab reveals that the photo was created using artificial intelligence (AI).
On July 12, the photo was posted in a Facebook group with a caption reading, “#Chattogram flood #offering namaz on water. May Allah Ta’ala grant shifa (healing/relief).” Observing the photo reveals an imam (prayer leader) standing in the water leading the namaz, with a microphone in front of him. Abnormalities are visible in the faces of the individuals standing in the namaz. No one’s face is completely visible. Additionally, the individuals standing in the back row only have bodies, but no faces.

The photo is also seen being spread in multiple (1, 2) Facebook groups, YouTube (1, 2), X, and TikTok.
To verify the authenticity, Dismislab tested it using Google’s AI detection tool SynthID. The Google SynthID result stated, “The image you provided contains signals indicating that it was created or edited with Google AI.”
Subsequently, when the photo was tested on Hive Moderation, the results showed that the probability of it being AI-generated is nearly 100 percent. Furthermore, Dismislab found no such incident or original photo through a search of relevant keywords.

That is to say, this scene of offering namaz in the water during the Chattogram flood is created using artificial intelligence or AI.
