Viral video claiming clash among BNP‑leaning lawyers in Bangladesh as actually from Pakistan
A video circulating on Facebook claims to show BNP‑leaning lawyers clashing inside a Bangladeshi court building. A Dismislab fact-check finds the claim to be false. The footage is not from Bangladesh. Reports published on March 2 this year confirm that the video shows a brawl among lawyers at the Lahore High Court in Pakistan during the bar association elections.
On March 5, a personal Facebook profile posted the 17‑second clip. The footage shows lawyers fighting inside what appears to be a courtroom corridor, with several men grappling and a female lawyer being attacked by multiple male colleagues. The caption reads: “BNP’s lawyers think the courts belong to their ancestors; they will get the right response at the right time, Inshallah.” The post also used hashtags referencing politics, Bangla News, and Chattogram.
By the time of writing, the video had been viewed nearly 99,000 times, shared more than 2,000 times, and received over 1,500 reactions. Several other Facebook profiles (1, 2, 3, 4) and pages shared the same video with the same claim.
To verify the footage, Dismislab performed reverse image searches using multiple key frames. The search led to a video report published on March 2 by the YouTube channel of Pakistan’s Dawn News. The report, titled “Violence erupts: Lawyers clash in Lahore High Court Bar elections, female lawyer assaulted,” contains footage identical to the first six seconds of the viral clip.
Further searches with relevant keywords found matching reports published by several Pakistani media outlets (1, 2) . According to a March 2 report by Pakistan Today, clashes broke out between two factions of lawyers during the Lahore High Court Bar Association elections. The report describes a confrontation between a male and a female lawyer, as well as separate physical fights involving other male lawyers in the court premises.
In short, the video being circulated as a clash among BNP‑leaning lawyers inside a Bangladeshi court is actually footage of a lawyers’ brawl in Pakistan’s Lahore High Court.
