Two photos have been circulating on social media with the claim that a huge procession of Jamaat-e-Islami is taking place in front of the Notre Dame College in Dhaka. However, a fact-check by Dismislab reveals that the crowds are Argentine supporters celebrating the World Cup victory.

After winning the 2022 Football World Cup, the Argentina team returned to the country on December 20. At one stage of welcoming them, Argentine supporters went to the 25 de Mayo (highway) in Buenos Aires. The two circulating photos are from that event.

The two photos were posted from a personal Facebook profile on February 2, 2026, with the caption, “Huge procession of Jamaat-e-Islami in front of Dhaka Notre Dame College.” As of the writing of this report, the post has been shared more than 1,500 times, drawing more than 5,700 reactions. Comments on the post show that many took it to be true. One user commented, “The student-public has awakened this time, the farmers and boatmen will awaken further; yes, the vote will win, the Dari Palla (Scales) will win. We will get to be ruled by honest people, InshaAllah.” Another user commented, “Okay, go ahead.”

The image was also posted from another personal Facebook profile with the same claim.

In the first picture, a gathering of numerous people is seen above and below a bridge. On a billboard behind the bridge, the text “moto” can be seen. On another billboard behind this billboard, an image of a lens is visible. Additionally, a yellow-colored signboard is seen on the road. Most of the individuals present are seen wearing Argentina jerseys.

A reverse image search revealed a report published by Jalopnik on December 21, 2022. The headline of the report was, “Millions of Fans Crowd Buenos Aires Streets and Highways to Celebrate World Cup Win.” The report states, “Roads and highways in Buenos Aires were gridlocked Tuesday as an estimated 4 million fans took to the streets to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup victory.” Multiple photos of that day’s World Cup celebration were used in this report. There is an exact match between the fourth image used in the report and the first circulating image.

In the second picture that was circulating, numerous people have gathered on a road. The back part of a signboard located on the road is visible. On a billboard, the text “EXP DISPONIBLE” is seen. On another billboard behind this billboard, the text “Union Pacific” is visible. Like in the first picture, most people are seen wearing Argentina jerseys, and numerous Argentina flags are also visible.

A reverse image search of the photo brings up a report published by the Buenos Aires Herald on December 20, 2023. The headline of the report was, “World Cup celebration: What happened on December 20.” There is an exact match between the second circulating image and the image used in this report.

Therefore, photos of Argentina’s World Cup victory celebration are circulating, falsely claiming that they are from a Jamaat-e-Islami procession.
