Photo of Chhatra League attacking Rashed Khan misrepresented as BNP assault
A photo was circulated on Facebook with the claim that BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) activists lynched Rashed Khan, an expelled member of Gono Odhikar Porishad. However, a fact-check by Dismislab reveals that the photo is from an incident in 2022 when Chhatra League (student wing of Awami League) activists beat Rashed Khan.
On July 9, a photo of BNP leader Rashed Khan was posted from a Facebook page named “Jonomot News” with a caption reading, “BNP activists have lyn*ched Rashed Khan, the expelled leader from Gono Odhikar Parishad.” The photo was shared with the same claim from multiple (1, 2, 3, 4) personal Facebook profiles and groups.

To verify the authenticity, a reverse image search led to a photo posted on September 26, 2022, from Rashed Khan’s Facebook page. The caption of the post read, “Attack once again on leaders including Rashed Khan, Hasan Al Mamun, Mahfuz, Monjur Morshed, Ata, and Yamin in Netrokona, led by District Chhatra League President Shaon. When they came to drop Hasan Al Mamun off at his house, Chhatra League came to Hasan Al Mamun’s house and carried out this attack. They kept saying, why did Rashed come to Netrokona? He will be turned into a co*rpse today.”
Further verification shows that in 2022, the photo was circulated with the claim, “Rashed Khan subjected to mass beating due to extramarital affair.” At that time, a fact-check report published by a fact-checking organization stated that the photo was of a Chhatra League attack. Additionally, multiple AI (Artificial Intelligence) versions of the photo were circulated in 2025. Rashed Khan published a post regarding this on December 18, 2025. In one part of the post, he noted, “Essentially, when I went to the residence of Gono Odhikar Parishad Joint General Secretary Md Hasan Al Mamun in 2022, a terrorist group led by the then-president and general secretary of Netrokona District Chhatra League came to attack me there. Miscreants are editing the photo of that time’s incident with AI and circulating it.”

In 2025, the fact-checking organization Rumor Scanner published a fact-check report on this matter.
That is to say, the photo circulated with the claim that BNP activists lynched Rashed Khan is from an incident in 2022 when Chhatra League activists beat Rashed Khan.
