False Statements Attributed to Dr. Kamal Hossain Regarding Jamaat and Tarique Rahman Circulate Online

Claims are circulating on social media that Dr. Kamal Hossain stated that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami must take responsibility for running the country. Another claim suggests that the veteran lawyer called Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), a fraud. However, a fact-check by Dismislab reveals that Dr. Kamal Hossain made none of the statements. 

On January 31, 2026, a photocard featuring a picture of Dr. Kamal Hossain, also emeritus president of Gono Forum party, was posted on a Facebook page named “Dainik Ajker Kontho.” The text inside the photocard read, “The BNP has defrauded the common people.” Below that, it stated, “Dr. Kamal Hossain called Tarique Rahman a fraud.” The date “January 31, 2026” was mentioned on the top right of the photocard. The photocard has been shared 638 times and has received over 2,600 reactions so far.

Another photocard featuring Dr. Kamal Hossain’s picture was posted from a personal Facebook profile on December 31, 2025, with the same claim. The text inside this photocard reads, “Dr. Kamal Hossain called Tarique Rahman a fraud.” Below it, Barta Bazar, an online portal, was cited as the source The caption of the post stated, “The BNP is defrauding the common people before the election! Therefore, constitution expert and Gono Forum President Dr. Kamal Hossain labeled Tarique Rahman a fraud.”

This photocard has been shared more than 4,000 times, drawing more than 5,100 reactions. Comments on the post show that many have accepted it as true. One user commented, “Kamal Sir is speaking the truth.” Another user wrote, “You have spoken correctly, Kamal Sir.”

For verification, Dismislab checked the Barta Bazar website and official Facebook page posts from December 31, but found no news involving Dr. Kamal Hossain. 

Meanwhile on February 1, a photocard with Dr. Kamal Hossain’s picture was posted from a personal Facebook profile, with the text: “It is Jamaat that  must take responsibility for running the country.” Below it, it stated, “It would be a mistake to delay recognising that the people of the country are waiting for Jamaat.” The caption of the post read, “The people of the country consider Jamaat safe; what can you do by opposing it? What will you gain by creating unrest in the country? You cannot go back to where you were. Think about staying in the country; you were away for 17 years, now try to stay together. Otherwise, you won’t even find a plane.”

So far, the photocard has been shared more than 28,000 times and has received more than 86,000 reactions. Comments on the post indicate that many have believed this. One user commented, “Dr. Kamal, thank you for speaking the truth.” Another wrote: “If Dr. Kamal Hossain’s words are true, then many thanks to him. I do not do politics, but I always wish for the welfare of the country and the people. Let us elect an honest, educated person who is not a loan defaulter and does not have dual citizenship in the next parliamentary election and build a beautiful, disciplined nation.” 

The photocard was also posted with the same claim from multiple Facebook pages (1, 2), groups (1, 2), and profiles.

Relevant keyword searches yielded no such statements by Dr. Kamal in any mainstream media.

Dismislab also contacted Gono Forum General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, who stated that Dr. Kamal Hossain confirmed he did not make any such remarks.

Therefore, the statements regarding Jamaat and Tarique Rahman attributing to Dr. Kamal Hossain is false.
