Old Video of Ashulia Circulates Claiming Clash at Chittagong University
A video spread on Facebook claiming it shows a clash at Chittagong University among law enforcements, students, and villagers. However, verification by Dismislab confirms that it is an old video of a clash between law enforcers and workers of a readymade garment factory in Ashulia, Savar, on September 30, 2024.
On September 2, a Facebook page named Sadia Sultana posted a 45-second video with the caption, “At the moment, multiple vehicles are being vandalized by the army and RAB at Chittagong University. A three-way clash is going on between the army, students and villagers…. Golden Bangladesh on the edge of civil war!”
The video was shared with the same claim from several Facebook pages and profiles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) showing RAB vehicles being vandalized, as RAB, police, and army members stand armed on the road. A single user’s post of the video was viewed more than 2,000 times at the time of writing this report.

Dismislab conducted reverse image search on key frames of the clip and found a short video on Channel 24’s verified YouTube channel. That video, broadcast on September 30, 2024, matches the footage recently circulated claiming it was from the Chittagong University incident. The caption of the Channel 24’s video says, “One killed in clash between garment workers and law enforcement in Ashulia. #ashulia.” Another Facebook profile shared a 1.5-minute video on the same day. The first 45 seconds of that video exactly match the recently spread clip. Meaning, the video circulated with the claim of a three-way clash shows part of the collision in Ashulia last year between workers and law enforcement.
Further search using relevant keywords found several online reports published in different media (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) on September 30. According to those reports, at around 11:00 a.m. on September 30, 2024, a clash broke out between workers and law enforcement in front of Mondol Group’s factory at Zirabo area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Agitated workers vandalized at least five RAB and police vehicles. One person was killed and 30 were injured in the incident. Several other news outlets (1, 2, 3) also shared the same video at that time.

So an old video from a year ago has been circulated recently claiming it depicts a three-way clash among law enforcement personnel, students, and locals at Chittagong University. This claim is false.
Originally, more than 200 people were injured in a clash between students and locals in Chittagong University area on August 31 after news spread that a caretaker in a rented house beat up a female student of the university.
