A video has recently circulated on the social media platform X with the claim that the Border Security Force (BSF) of India shot a Bangladeshi infiltrator during an infiltration attempt at the Tripura border. However, a fact-check by Dismislab reveals that the claim is false. Reports published in the media show that the incident occurred in August 2025 in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The footage depicts the body of an individual killed during an anti-terrorist operation named “Operation Akhal,” which involved a gunfight with security forces in a dense forest.

The video was posted from a verified X account on June 14. In the 8-second video, a person is seen lying on the grass. Translating the caption’s text into English, the meaning stands as: “Today BSF finished a Bangladeshi ‘Kanglu’ (a derogatory term used to mock Bangladeshis) who was infiltrating through the Tripura border.. 🎯🫡😍 Jai Hind BSF” (Translated from Hindi). Up until the writing of this report, the video has been viewed more than 3,400 times and reposted 181 times. 515 people reacted to the video. The video was posted from multiple X accounts (1, 2) claiming the individual to be an infiltrator in Tripura.

To verify the authenticity of the incident, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search, which led to a report published on August 2, 2025, by the Indian media outlet Dainik Bhaskar. The headline of the report read, “Encounter continues for the fourth consecutive day in Kulgam:2 terrorists killed, 4 soldiers injured; Rudra helicopters and drones deployed to track militants”, and the video in the report shares an exact resemblance to the circulating video.

Upon further verification using various keywords, the same video was found in a report published in YouTube on August 2, 2025 by another media outlet WION. According to the headline of the video, “BREAKING | J&K: 2nd Terrorist Killed in Kulgam Encounter | Haris Nazir Dar Had Affiliation With LeT.”

Multiple media outlets (1, 2, 3, 4) published reports regarding the Kulgam incident. According to information obtained from the reports, the Indian Army initiated an operation named “Operation Akhal” to eliminate militants in the deep forests of Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, starting from the night of Friday, August 1, 2025. This operation continued for 11 days. Up until August 2, two terrorists were killed by gunfire from security forces during the operation.

Hence, the video circulating with the claim that the BSF shot a Bangladeshi infiltrator during an infiltration attempt at the Tripura border is false. The original video is nearly 10 months old and depicts a ‘terrorist’ killed during “Operation Akhal,” which took place in Kulgam.

In this context, a Bangladeshi youth was killed by BSF at the Kulaura border on June 12.
