Fake photocard claims attacks on Sunni Muslim shrines for not voting for Jamaat
A photocard bearing the logo of the Bangla daily Amar Desh has been circulating on Facebook, claiming that Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir activists carried out looting and vandalism at Sunni Muslim shrines because people did not vote for the Daripalla, Jamaat’s electoral symbol. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that Amar Desh did not publish any such photocard.
The photocard was posted on February 15 from a personal Facebook profile. It features images of Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, several damaged structures, and scenes of fire. Styled to resemble an Amar Desh news graphic, it includes the text: “Jamaat‑Shibir attack, vandalize, and loot Sunni shrines for not voting for the scale symbol.”
The top center of the card displays the Amar Desh logo. At the bottom, it shows the date “February, 15, 2025” on one side and the newspaper’s website address on the other. The caption reads: “Because they did not vote for the scale symbol, Jamaat‑Shibir are attacking, vandalizing, and looting shrines across the country.” The photocard has been shared 43 times so far.
To verify its authenticity, Dismislab reviewed all photocards and posts published on the official Amar Desh Facebook page on February 15. No such photocard or related news link was found on the official page. The outlet’s website and YouTube channel also contain no reports matching the claim.
Dismislab also spoke with the newspaper’s Associate Editor, Alfaz Anam, who confirmed that the circulating photocard does not belong to Amar Desh.
In summary, the photocard shared in the name of Amar Desh, claiming that Sunni shrines were attacked because they did not vote for Jamaat, is fabricated.
