A video showing an attack on a polling station in Cumilla is being misrepresented on social media as being linked to the February 12 elections.

The clip was shared on February 11 by a Facebook page called Janatar TV with a caption claiming that a polling centre was vandalised after an announcement from a mosque loudspeaker. It added, “The army cannot stop any mob. Where’s the guarantee of safety? So, please don’t vote in tomorrow’s (February 12) elections. Please vote in the elections that will be held under the caretaker government in a few days.”

The same video was also shared by several other Facebook accounts (1, 2, 3).

The footage shows the logo of Daily Comilla News on the top left. A search found two Facebook pages—Daily Comilla News and Comilla News.com—using the same logo design.

Keyword searches led to a YouTube channel associated with Comilla News.com, where the same video was published on November 11, 2021. The caption described an attack on a polling centre in Cumilla following an announcement from a mosque loudspeaker. The footage matches the video now circulating online.

News report on the main incident.

Further verification found news reports published on November 11, 2021, by Somoy Television and Ajker Patrika. The reports said a polling station at Amirabad Government Primary School in Manikachar Union of Meghna Upazila was attacked that day during Union Parishad elections after an announcement from a mosque loudspeaker.

The video circulating on social media is not recent. It shows an incident from 2021 and is falsely being presented as an attack linked to the February 12 election.
