AI-generated video falsely shows Indian soldiers doing sit-ups holding their ears before Chinese troops
A video circulating widely on social media shows two Indian soldiers performing sit-ups while holding their ears in front of Chinese troops. However, a fact-check by Dismislab found that the footage was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
The 15-second video was posted on July 1 by a Facebook page named “Sesh TV“, which identifies itself as a news outlet. It depicts two individuals wearing badges resembling the Indian flag performing the gesture in a mountainous area, while three armed figures with badges resembling the Chinese flag stand facing them. Military trucks, additional soldiers and a red flag are visible in the background.
Text embedded in the video reads: “Two Indian BSF personnel surrender and perform sit-ups holding their ears before Chinese soldiers.” The video also features a logo designed to resemble the Bangladeshi television channel Desh TV, but it is labeled “Sesh TV.”
At the time of writing this report, the video had been shared more than 20,000 times, received over 25,000 reactions and attracted more than 1,000 comments. The same video has also been shared by several other Facebook accounts (1, 2, 3, 4).
Dismislab analyzed the footage and identified multiple visual inconsistencies typical of AI-generated content. The two individuals shown performing the sit-ups have nearly identical facial features, body proportions, skin tones and hairstyles. Likewise, the armed figures portrayed as Chinese soldiers also appear to have almost identical faces and physiques.
Frame-by-frame analysis further revealed noticeable distortions. The fingers and faces of the two Indian soldiers become unnaturally deformed during the sit-up motion, while the face of one of the Chinese troops also appears visibly warped in several frames.
To trace the video’s origin, Dismislab conducted keyword searches and reverse image searches. The earliest version located was the one uploaded by the Sesh TV Facebook page at 1:58pm Bangladesh time on July 1.
Dismislab also noted that the same Facebook page has previously published AI-generated videos containing false claims, which were debunked in earlier fact-checks.
As part of its verification, Dismislab analysed the video using the AI detection tool Hive Moderation. According to the tool’s assessment, there is a 99% probability that the footage was generated using AI.
As such, the video does not depict a real incident, rather is an AI-generated fabrication falsely claiming to show Indian soldiers performing sit-ups before Chinese troops.
