Images showing Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan donated millions to Babri Mosque are AI-generated
Multiple images claiming that Shah Rukh Khan donated BDT 250 million and Salman Khan BDT 100 million for the Babri Mosque have spread on social media. However, fact-checking shows the images were created using artificial intelligence.
The images relating to Shah Rukh Khan show the actor handing over a check to Humayun Kabir, the MLA of Bharatpur in Murshidabad. Kabir, who was expelled from the Trinamool Congress party, is currently leading fundraising efforts for the Babri Mosque. The images have circulated on Facebook (1, 2, 3, 4) and Instagram, with one post drawing more than 3,000 shares.

One user commented, “I was not as happy to know Shah Rukh is on the list of 67 stylish people as I was to hear that he donated Tk 250 million for the Babri Mosque. He gave a very good amount. He donated it to a religious institution. All Muslims of the world will be very happy. I sincerely congratulate you.”
Similar claims have also circulated involving Salman Khan. A Facebook post caption reads, “Salman Khan said he will give a Tk 10 crore check to build the Babri Mosque in Murshidabad.” One user commented, “We want to donate to the Babri Mosque from Bangladesh. If we send it, will it reach there?” The post has been shared more than 1,300 times.
Keyword and keyframe searches found no reliable news reports about donations by Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan for the Babri Mosque. No such posts were found on their verified Facebook (1, 2), Instagram (1, 2) or X (1, 2) accounts. Humayun Kabir’s verified Facebook page also contains no information about donations by either actor.
For context, Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone on Saturday, December 6, for a mosque in Murshidabad modeled after the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya. The date was chosen because the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992. At the event, Kabir asked for donations to build the mosque. However, the check shown in the images given by Shah Rukh Khan carries a date from September 2024. The same date is faintly visible on the wall clock in the image.
Closer inspection by Dismislab revealed multiple inconsistencies. In all three images, the text on the check contains spelling errors, meaningless words, and formats inconsistent with real bank checks. The currency symbols and language usage are inconsistent. Logos and government emblems appear distorted. Fine text looks blurry or unrealistic. The faces appear unnaturally smooth. The large crowd in the background shows repeated facial patterns. These inconsistencies indicate the images were generated or manipulated using AI. Content detection tools, AI or Not and Hive Moderation also show an almost 100% probability that the images were AI-generated.
Reverse image searches using keyframes found older photos of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan wearing the same outfits. The clothing styles and colors indicate that older images published at different times were used to generate these AI-created visuals.
In conclusion, the images claiming Shah Rukh Khan donated Tk 250 million and Salman Khan donated Tk 100 million for the Babri Mosque were created using artificial intelligence.
