Fake photocard spreads in Jamuna TV’s name, claiming Jamaat nominated Islamic scholar Abrarul Haque Asif
A photocard featuring the Jamuna TV logo has spread on Facebook, claiming that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Islamic scholar Abrarul Haque Asif to run in the February election from the Rajshahi-3 constituency to attract young voters. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that Jamuna TV did not publish any such photocard.
On December 13, a photocard featuring images of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, and Islamic speaker Abrarul Haque Asif was shared in a Facebook group named “Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ❤️” from a personal profile. The photocard, which has Jamuna TV’s name written on it, states, “To attract young people, Jamaat has nominated popular Islamic scholar Abrarul Haque Asif from the Rajshahi-3 constituency.”

The caption reads, “Alhamdulillah, summa Alhamdulillah—a smart person like Asif Huzur will go to parliament.” The same photocard was also posted with the same claim from another personal Facebook profile. At the bottom left of the card, the Jamuna TV logo is visible. The date “12 December 2025” and Jamuna TV’s website information are listed at the bottom right of the card.
To verify the authenticity of the photocard, Dismislab reviewed Jamuna Television’s verified Facebook page and its photocards and posts from December 12, but found no such photocard.
Dismislab also contacted Jamuna Television. Rubel Mahmud, editor of the media outlet’s new media department, said that the circulated photocard is not from Jamuna TV.
Further investigation revealed a post on Jamaat-e-Islami’s verified Facebook page from December 8 about a courtesy meeting between Jamaat’s Ameer and the Brunei High Commissioner to Dhaka, Haji Haris bin Osman.

In the image published on Jamaat’s page, the sitting posture of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and the position of his panjabi match the scene shown in the circulated photocard. Close observation shows that during such courtesy meetings, there is usually a table between the Jamaat’s Ameer and the guest, which is absent in this photocard. Several such images (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) can be found on their page and website.
That means the photocard circulating in Jamuna TV’s name has been edited. Moreover, no news report has been found in any media outlet or on Jamaat-e-Islami’s verified Facebook page claiming that the party has nominated Islamic speaker Abrarul Haque Asif.
