A photocard with the logo of the daily Kaler Kantho spread on Facebook claiming that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that his party would not join the election if a deputy prime minister is not appointed from the opposition. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that the photocard carrying the claim of the Jamaat chief’s comment is fake.

Since November 14, 2025, several personal profiles and groups on Facebook have posted a photocard (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) created in the style of the daily Kaler Kantho. The card used a photo of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman along with the text: “If a deputy prime minister is not appointed from the opposition party, Jamaat will not join the election. Doctor Shafiqur Rahman.” The top right section carries the logo of Kaler Kantho, and the bottom corners carry the date “13 November 2025” and the newspaper’s website address.

In the description, the posters wrote, “PR gone, referendum gone, now deputy prime minister? If a deputy prime minister is not chosen from the opposition party, they will not take part in the election. They are supposed to form the government; how did they consider themselves the opposition? Brother, first become the opposition party, then ask for the post of Deputy Prime Minister. The whole country belongs to them; whatever they want, they will get—but who will give it? They treat their ally of seventeen years like an enemy, the way they are cornering BNP, especially accusing them of extortion. Can they place their hands on their chest and say they have ever given even a single penny of extortion to anyone? May Allah give them guidance.”

As of filing this report, one post of the photocard gained over 800 shares.

To verify the photocard’s authenticity, Dismislab checked all the photocards and posts from Kaler Kantho’s Facebook page dated November 13, but found no such photocard.

For further verification, Dismislab contacted the newspaper. Gaus Rahman Pias, news editor of the multimedia department at Kaler Kantho, confirmed that the photocard is fake. He said they never use a full stop in the headline. He also noted that the circulated photocard does not match the style of Kaler Kantho’s recent photocards.

Thus, the photocard with the Kaler Kantho logo with a call by the Jamaat chief for appointing a deputy prime minister from the opposition party is fake.

Earlier, fake photocards (1, 2, 3) about Jamaat from different news outlets, and false claims about clashes involving Jamaat (1, 2, 3) were spread. These issues were highlighted in Dismislab’s fact-check reports.
