Fake photo card mislabels NCP blast detainee as Shibir activist
A photocard with the logo of news outlet Dainik Amar Desh’ has been spreading on Facebook, claiming that the person who threw the crude bomb in front of the National Citizen Party (NCP) office is an Islami Chhatrashibir activist. The photocard cited the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to back up the claim. But a fact-check by Dismislab found that the photocard is not from ‘Amar Desh’ and a DMP official confirmed that they did not issue any such statement.
Several Facebook pages (1, 2, 3, 4) shared the photocard titled “Munna, who threw a crude bomb in front of the NCP office, is a Shahbagh Thana Chhatrashibir activist: DMP.” The card carried the ‘Amar Desh’ label. Sharing the photocard, one Facebook user wrote, “Jamaat-Shibir is doing everything possible to destabilize the country and sabotage the election. Those who never wanted this country will never want its good.” A page named “Supporters of Bangladesh Awami League” shared the same photocard, writing, “We have been saying that BNP-Jamaat is creating this unrest and blaming Awami League.”

The photocard circulated online uses the familiar style of ‘Amar Desh’ and copies the color scheme and logo used on its Facebook photocards. But the arrows beside the words “Details in comments” point downward in the fake photo card, while ‘Amar Desh’ places the arrows pointing to two opposite sides. When contacted about the photo card being circulated, ‘Amar Desh’ said no such photocard was posted from their page.
Dismislab also checked whether DMP issued any statement about those detained in the crude bomb explosion. When contacted, the deputy commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations division said, “DMP has not issued any such statement.”
This means the photocard claiming that the detained person in the NCP crude bomb incident is a Chhatrashibir activist is fake.
