A photocard  of Jamuna TV, claiming a bus driver died after protesters set fire to a vehicle during a blockade by nomination-deprived activists in Satkhira, has spread on Facebook. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that no such arson occurred in Satkhira. The photo used in the card shows a different event, an arson attack on a bus in Dhaka four years ago.

The photocard was posted from several personal profiles and groups (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). It shows a burning bus on a road, with the text below reading, “Nomination-deprived protesters’ blockade in Satkhira, bus set on fire, driver killed!” The bottom right corner of the card displays the date November 4, 2025.

The caption of the post reads, “You didn’t get the nomination, that’s your issue. What was this man’s crime? Who will take responsibility for this killing?” Another group shared it with the caption, “Nomination-deprived protesters block road, vandalize vehicles, and set fire to buses in Satkhira 🔥 bus driver being killed.”

A reverse image search of the photo used in the card brings up several media reports (1, 2, 3, 4). According to those reports, the photo is from four years ago, November 12, 2020, when at least nine arson incidents took place in Dhaka during the Dhaka-18 by-election. The image shows a burning bus in the Gulistan area.

On November 4, 2025, Jamuna TV published a news photocard that read, “BNP leader’s supporters block road in Satkhira after being denied nomination.” The channel’s detailed report stated that after BNP announced Kazi Alauddin as the candidate for Satkhira-3, supporters of BNP executive committee member Dr. Shahidul Alam held a blockade on the Satkhira-Kaliganj highway at Nalta around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (November 4), burning tires and staging protests.

Several media outlets (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) reported on the blockade, but none of them mentioned any vehicle being set on fire or a bus driver being killed.

To verify the viral card’s authenticity, Dismislab contacted Jamuna TV. Rubel Mahmud, Editor of the New Media Department of this channel, confirmed the card was not produced by Jamuna TV. He also pointed out that the font used in the fake card does not match the channel’s original style.

Dismislab also contacted Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station, who confirmed that no bus was set on fire and no driver was killed in Kaliganj.

The photocard circulating under Jamuna TV’s name is fake. The claim that a bus driver was killed in an arson attack during the nomination-deprived activists’ blockade in Satkhira is false.
