Old Habiganj Footage Circulates Online as recent Awami League–BNP Clash in Faridpur
A video circulated on Facebook claiming that a violent clash between the Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) broke out in Faridpur late at night. However, Dismislab’s fact-check finds the original footage comes from Bahubal upazila of Habiganj, showing a clash between residents of two villages following a quarrel between two children.
On October 30, a 32-second video showing a street fight spread on Facebook. Its caption read: “30/10/25 Late-night massive clash between Awami League and BNP in Faridpur! Sonar Bangladesh is on the brink of civil war. Many casualties… the administration remains silent…”
The same video was shared from several personal Facebook profiles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 6).

For verification, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search using keyframes and found a one-minute YouTube Shorts video posted on 29 October. Its caption said, “Heavy fighting in Bahubal Bazar and Baraiuri. May Allah guide everyone, Ameen.” The first 32 seconds of this video exactly match the one being spread on Facebook with the false claim. The same one-minute footage also appears on Facebook (1, 2, 3, 4) and Instagram.

A video uploaded on 29 October on Samakal’s YouTube channel shows the same clash in Bahubal Bazar from a different angle. In that footage, a man in pink clothing can be seen defending himself with a tin sheet, the same man who is visible in the viral video being circulated now. Samakal’s report was titled: “Over 50 injured in clash following quarrel between two children in Habiganj’s Bahubal.”

For further confirmation, Dismislab searched relevant keywords and found multiple news reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) describing the Habiganj clash. According to a report published on Channel 24, the clash took place on the night of 28 October at the Madhyabazar area of the upazila, when residents of Bahubal and Baraiuri villages attacked each other with local weapons after a dispute between two children. Several shops were vandalized, and around fifty people were injured. Police and army personnel later brought the situation under control.
The video does not show any clash between the Awami League and the BNP in Faridpur. It documents a local conflict in Habiganj’s Bahubal upazila, unrelated to politics. No credible report mentions any political involvement in the incident.
