Man in viral video is not adviser Asif Mahmud’s father
A video has been circulating on Facebook claiming that Youth and Sports adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan’s father was abusing villagers. However, verification reveals that the video is actually from 2024. It originally depicts an incident in Lalmohan, Bhola, where Awami League General Secretary Fakhrul Alam Howlader slapped a candidate for the Upazila Chairman position.
The video has been shared on Facebook (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) with captions such as, “After all, he is the adviser’s father. See the power of Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan’s father!” In the footage, a man is seen getting off a motorcycle and physically assaulting another individual. A scuffle involving multiple people follows shortly after.
A keyword search during the verification process led Dismislab to several media reports on the incident. A report published by Somoy TV on June 5, 2024, was titled, “Awami League Leader Assaults Chairman Candidate, Video Goes Viral.” Banglar Kantho published a report with the headline, “Video of Chairman Candidate Being Assaulted in Lalmohan Goes Viral.” Additionally, DBC News uploaded a video report on its official YouTube channel on June 5, 2024, titled, “Chairman Candidate Publicly Assaulted in Lalmohan, Bhola.” The video’s opening clip matches the footage being falsely circulated with misleading claims. The actual incident involved an attack on Upazila Parishad chairman candidate Hasnat Hasnain by Awami League leader Fakhrul Alam Howlader in Lalmohan, Bhola. Therefore, the individual in the video is not Youth and Sports adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan’s father.
It should be mentioned, adviser Asif Mahmud’s father is Billal Hossain. He is the head teacher of Akub Pur Eakub Ali Buyain Public High School in Muradnagar Upazila, Cumilla.
