Old and unrelated footage shared with claim of Jubo League activist’s torture
A video was circulated on social media claiming BNP activists tortured a Jubo League (youth wing of the Awami League) worker. However, a fact-check by Dismislab reveals that the video depicts a scene of a young man being tortured in Cumilla over allegations of an extramarital relationship. On October 22, 2025, a young man was tortured and had his head shaved in Chauddagram, Cumilla; the circulated video is of that incident.
On October 14, a video was posted from a Facebook profile named “Swadhin Bangladesh.” Written in the post was, “After a long time, the Jubo League worker came home. He sat down to eat rice with his wife and children, but that did not happen; while he was eating rice, BNP people came and ruthlessly beat him.” In the 10-second video, multiple people are seen beating a person on a bed. The video was shared with the same claim from multiple Facebook profiles, pages, and groups (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The video was also found on the social media platform X.

Dismisslab verified the video by conducting a reverse image search using keyframes from the video. This brought up a report published in Prothom Alo on October 24, 2025. The image used in this report shows an exact match with the scenes from the circulated video. The headline of the report was, “Youth tortured then head shaved over allegation of immoral relationship in Cumilla.”
The report stated, “A video of that incident has spread on the social media platform Facebook. The family of the victimized youth claims he was tortured by conspiracy. He was intentionally beaten and later released in exchange for money. The video spread on social media last Thursday. Prior to that, at 7pm on Wednesday, the youth was tortured in Unkot village of Shubhopur Union under the upazila.”
Additionally, the incident was mentioned as a torture incident over allegations of an extramarital relationship in multiple (1, 2) media outlets.

That is to say, a scene from a different incident in Cumilla has been circulated with the claim that a Jubo League worker was tortured.
