A video has been circulating on Facebook with the claim that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence was attacked. However, a fact-check found that the two scenes in the video are from two separate incidents in India. One shows a student protest at a university in Pune in 2025, while the other shows a protest in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in October 2026, demanding the resignation of the chief election commissioner.

The video was posted on Facebook by a page named “New Saiful.” Three pieces of footage can be seen playing simultaneously. The footage at the top shows several people protesting in front of a university gate. In the footage at the bottom left, a police officer can be seen taking away a man wearing a white shirt. On the right, a man is heard saying, “Oh, all my beloved Muslim brothers, everyone say Alhamdulillah. The game has begun in India. Our Muslims have awakened. Everyone has attacked Narendra Modi’s residence. Insha’Allah, the Muslims will be victorious.” At that point, he urges Muslims to share the video so that others can watch it.

Keyframes were taken from two pieces of footage in the video and subjected to reverse image searches. This led to a report published by the Indian news outlet Pudhari on July 14, 2025. The report states that the scene shows students protesting at Savitribai Phule Pune University. According to the report’s headline and description, the students protested over the awarding of grace marks in examinations. The photograph published with the report visually matches the first scene in the circulating video.

A reverse image search to identify the second scene led to a report published on the website Prokerala. The report, titled “SP workers protest against CEC,” was published on October 2, 2026, and contains photographs of Samajwadi Party (SP) workers protesting in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Indian news outlet ABP Live published a report about the same incident on October 3, 2026. It stated that a police officer carried a protester who was chanting slogans demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation in his arms and took him to a police bus on the other side of the road. The incident is also visible in the video published alongside the report. The scene matches the second clip in the circulating video.

In other words, footage from two separate incidents is being circulated under the false claim that Narendra Modi’s residence was attacked.
