A video has been circulating on Facebook with the claim that students of Dhaka University, led by its Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President Shadik Kayem, marched toward the Secretariat demanding the resignation of the home minister. However, a Dismislab fact-check found that the video is old. It shows a protest outside the office of the home affairs adviser in December 2025, where protesters made several demands, including the arrest of those involved in the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha.

On October 3, a 31-second video was posted from a Facebook page named “Mukto Diary.” The post said, “DU Students marching toward the Secretariat under the leadership of DUCSU VP Shadik Kayem demanding the resignation of the home minister.” The video shows several people moving forward after breaking through a police barricade despite resistance from police. In a narration-style voice, a man can be heard saying, “Viewers, you can see that a scuffle between Dhaka University students and police has already begun. DU students have broken through the police barricade and entered the Secretariat area.”

The video also says that the footage shows a protest outside the Secretariat office of the Home Affairs Adviser demanding his resignation, led by Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President Shadik Kayem. Until the publication of this report, the video had been viewed about 850,000 times and shared about 7,500 times.

A reverse image search using keyframes from the video led to a video published on the Facebook page of “NPB News” on December 15, 2025. The 1 minute 34 second video was titled “DU students again break police barricade and move toward the Secretariat.” The first 31 seconds of that video exactly match the circulating video. The narration in the circulating video also matches the audio of the report.

Multiple news outlets published reports (1, 2, 3) on the incident. A report published in the online edition of Prothom Alo on December 15, 2025, said that a protest was organized outside the office of Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury over several demands, including the arrest of those involved in the attempted shooting and killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. The procession began in front of the DUCSU office and encountered police resistance near Doel Chattar, the High Court shrine and the Secretariat area adjacent to the Shikkha Bhaban. The students then broke through the barricade and moved forward.

In other words, an old video of a protest outside the home affairs adviser’s office at the Secretariat in December 2025 is being circulated with a false claim that it shows a recent protest demanding the resignation of the home minister.
