Myanmar clash video falsely shared as Chinese attack on Indian soldier
A video has been circulating on Facebook with the claim that Chinese troops attacked a captain of the Indian Army. However, a Dismislab fact-check found that the video actually shows a physical altercation between members of two armed groups in Myanmar in 2025.
On September 6, a 15-second video was posted from a Facebook page with the caption, “Chinese army beat up Indian Army captain.” The video shows two people in military uniforms fighting. Several people wearing military and civilian clothing can be seen standing around them. Until the publication of this report, the video had been viewed about 290,000 times and shared about 600 times.
The video was also found circulating from several personal profiles and pages (1, 2).
Using keyframes from the video, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search and found a video published on a YouTube channel named “Arakha Youtube Channel.” The video, published on January 31, 2025, has a Burmese title that translates into English as “KIA and TNLA resolve tensions on the ground through a fistfight.” Several parts of that video match the circulated footage exactly.
Further searches using relevant keywords led to a report published on the website of Myanmar-based news outlet Myanmar Now. Published on January 29, 2025, the report said that members of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), two armed groups in Myanmar’s northern Shan State, got into a physical altercation over boundary demarcation. The incident occurred after TNLA members tried to forcibly cross a KIA checkpoint.
In other words, an old video of a physical altercation between two armed groups in Myanmar is being circulated as footage of Chinese troops attacking Indian soldiers.
