Old ‘March for Gaza’ video shared to claim men in burqas took part in Jamaat women’s rally
A video has been circulating on Facebook with the claim that men wearing burqas participated in a Jamaat-e-Islami women’s rally to inflate the turnout. However, a Dismislab fact-check found the claim to be false. The video shows a young man disguised as a woman being searched by army personnel during the “March for Gaza” program in 2025.
A 30-second video was posted on Facebook by a page called “Siraz Bhai 02.” Text inside the video reads, “Men participated wearing burqas to show a larger turnout at Jamaat’s women’s rally.” The video shows a person wearing a black burqa and niqab, with a Palestinian flag wrapped around his shoulders, being searched by a member of the army. The soldier is also seen removing the black niqab from the person’s face. One commenter wrote, “When it comes to Jamaat, there is no deed Jamaat cannot do.” At the time of publication of this report, the video had been viewed more than 130,000 times and shared 2,300 times.
Using keyframes from the video, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search and found a video published on Daily Ittefaq’s YouTube channel. The post, published on April 12, 2025, was titled, “Army pulls off burqa niqab from face of participant at March for Gaza.” The opening scene of this video matched the recently circulated video. In both videos, the army is seen searching a young man wearing a burqa.
A relevant keyword search found reports about the incident published by multiple news outlets (1, 2, 3). A report published by Daily Janakantha on April 12, 2025, said that tight security measures were put in place to prevent disorder at the “March for Gaza” program held at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. Army personnel assigned to ensure security at the gathering detained a young man for questioning after noticing him moving around suspiciously. He was wearing a burqa and a niqab over his face.
It is worth noting that a video making the same claim circulated on Facebook last January. At the time, multiple fact-checking organizations published fact-check reports (1, 2, 3).
Therefore, the claim that men were present at Jamaat-e-Islami’s women’s rally is false. An old video of a young man being searched during the “March for Gaza” program in 2025 is being circulated with a misleading claim.
