A video was recently circulated on the social media platform Facebook claiming that Muslims are being killed using gas. However, Dismislab’s fact-check has found that the video does not depict any real event. The portion visible in the video is taken from Swedish director Roy Andersson’s short film “World of Glory.”

A 1-minute video was posted on August 25 from a Facebook page named MuslimBangla. The video shows a group of naked men, women, and children huddled together amid cold and fear, standing and waiting inside a vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle’s door is closed. Outside, some men and women dressed in suits are seen watching the scene.

The post read, “Muslims are being killed using gas. Where is that so-called human rights commission today” (verbatim). As of the publication of this report, the video had been viewed more than 64,000 times and shared more than 1,200 times.

In the comments, one person wrote, “Although this video doesn’t seem real to me, if it is real, then very good work is being done.” Several people commented that the video was created using artificial intelligence, or AI. One person commented that it was a scene depicting an event that happened to Jews in Germany.

Based on information obtained through a key-frame search, Dismislab conducted a relevant keyword search and learned about the video’s original source. It was found that this portion of the video was taken from a short film titled “World of Glory,” released in 1991. It is the opening scene of this short film by Swedish director Roy Andersson that has recently been circulated with a different claim. The scene at the 48th second of this 17-minute short film matches exactly with the recently circulated video.

In other words, a scene taken from the short film “World of Glory” has been circulated as a scene depicting the killing of Muslims using gas.
