A video posted recently on social media platform Facebook claims to show a man in a cap and panjabi sexually harassing a burqa-clad woman in Dhaka. However, Dismislab’s verification found that the video is not from Bangladesh, but from Uttar Pradesh, India.

The video was posted on April 30 from a Facebook page named “Natural Lifestyle.” The 17-second video shows a bearded man wearing a cap and panjabi groping a woman’s chest while walking through an alley, then running away. The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage. Text within the video reads, “This happened to me today in front of my house in Dhaka, please catch him and hand him to the police if you can” (verbatim). The post’s caption states, “Eating pig meat and behaving like pigs.”

As of this writing, the video has been viewed nearly 150,000 times and shared more than 1,100 times. The post garnered more than 2,400 reactions. An analysis of the comments shows that many took the incident to be true and shared their opinions. One user mockingly wrote that “they hand out tickets to heaven this way”. Another commented, sarcastically, that these are the same people who claim they will run the country.

Separately, a Facebook page named “Better Times” posted the same video of the same incident with the headline, “Hand on a woman’s chest while walking on a deserted street,” though the post did not mention the location of the incident anywhere.

To verify the incident’s authenticity, Dismislab conducted reverse image searches using various keyframes. The verification found screenshots of the circulated video in a report published on May 1 this year by an Indian media outlet named “UP Tak.” The report’s headline translates to, “Naushad came from behind and did dirty things to a burqa-clad woman walking alone on a deserted street; he must certainly be regretting it now.” The report reveals that the video actually shows an incident of a burqa-clad woman being molested in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Further verification using relevant keyword searches found reports on the incident published by multiple Indian media outlets (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

According to a report from the Times of India, a man sexually harassed a burqa-clad woman in Mughalpura, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on April 29. After the video spread on social media, police took swift action. The accused, identified as Naushad through CCTV footage, was arrested on April 30 following an armed encounter, during which he was shot in the leg during an exchange of fire. Police stated that Naushad confessed to the crime. He is currently admitted to a hospital.

In short, a video from Uttar Pradesh, India is being falsely circulated as an incident from Bangladesh — this claim is entirely false.

Dismislab has previously published a fact-check report on multiple incidents from India that were spread on social media with false claims of being from Bangladesh.

The original version of this fact-check report was published in Bengali on Dismislab’s Bengali website on May 2, 2026. The English translation was completed later; however, to maintain time accuracy and avoid any potential misinterpretation, the English version has been published with the original publication date.
