Fake photocard spread about home minister saying there’s no stopping Awami League now

A photocard photocard  bearing the logo of the newspaper Kaler Kantho has been circulating on Facebook, claiming Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that Awami League has become “the party of the masses” due to the failures of Dr Yunus and BNP and that BNP has no ability to stop them. Dismislab’s fact-check found this claim to be false.

The photocard was posted on June 22 in a Facebook group called “Awami League Paribar” and has since spread across multiple pages, profiles, and groups, gathering hundreds of reactions and shares. Many commenters appeared to believe it was genuine.

Till writing the report, there were more than 450 reactions on the post and 200 shares. Judging by the comments, it is clear that many believed the photocard to be true and shared their opinions. One user wrote, “Thanks to Salahuddin”, while multiple commenters wrote, “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu”.

The same photocard was posted from multiple personal profiles, pages, and groups on Facebook (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

Dismislab identified several inconsistencies: a Google Gemini AI watermark visible in the corner (indicating the image was AI-generated/edited), a different and slightly larger font than Kaler Kantho’s actual photocards, and spelling errors/unclear lettering in the headline.

No such photocard or article was found on Kaler Kantho’s verified Facebook page or website from that date. However, a genuine photocard from June 22 was found with a different quote — one stating that “there is no organization called Awami League,” attributed to the home minister.

Kaler Kantho’s online consultant, Sanjay Dey, confirmed directly to Dismislab that the photocard and text were not produced by them.

The photocard attributing this “cannot stop Awami League” comment to Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is fake. Dismislab notes this is not the first time fabricated quotes have been falsely attributed to Salahuddin Ahmed and circulated on social media.
