Video of assault in Indian hospital used to blame BNP rule for unrest in Bangladesh

A Facebook profile posted the video on July 6. The 23-second video shows a man repeatedly slapping a woman inside a hospital. When the woman tries to hit back, the man assaults her again. To verify the claim, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search using key frames from the video. The search found some reports (1, 2, 3) published by Indian media outlets on June 25, 2025. Those reports identified the location as Krishnanagar in Nadia district, India. According to a report by TV9 Bangla, “According to district hospital sources, the mentally unstable woman mistakenly entered another ward. She then started harassing other patients there. That is why the hospital security guard was called. The assault took place at that time.” The people seen in the published images exactly match those in the viral video. However, the woman’s face appears blurred in the news report.
Further verification through relevant keyword searches found another report by ETV Bharat, which made the same claim. Nadia Chief Health Officer Jyotish Chandra Das said an investigation committee had been formed and authorities were looking into the incident. DSP Shilpi Pal of Krishnanagar District Police said that since the incident took place inside a hospital, it primarily falls under the health department’s jurisdiction. The department will conduct the investigation.
