Mohammad Golam Sarwar Tushar is the National Citizen Party (NCP) candidate for the Narsingdi-2 (Palash) constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he mentioned his profession as “writer.” A claim has since spread on Facebook that, although he identifies himself as a writer, he has no published books. A photocard with this claim was also shared from the official page of Awami League leader Mohammad Ali Arafat. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that Mohammad Golam Sarwar Tushar’s name appears as an author in at least six published books. The names and detailed information for these books are available on the e-commerce platform Rokomari and on the Batighar Publishing website.

On January 2, a photocard was posted on Facebook from a page named “Daily Ajker Kontho.” Parts of the caption read, “Writer Tushar without books: Earned Tk 340,000 from writing at a glance. Strange profession and income: Listed ‘writer’ as profession and showed an annual income of Tk 340,000, yet he has no published books in the market.”

The caption further stated, “Narsingdi correspondent: In the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Mohammad Golam Sarwar Tushar is contesting from Narsingdi-2 (Palash) constituency as a candidate of the National Citizen Party (NCP). In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he mentioned his profession as ‘writer.’ However, an investigation found no trace of any of his published books. Yet, despite having no books or publications, he strangely showed an annual income of Tk  340,000 from ‘writing’. Analysis of the affidavit shows that although he is a parliamentary candidate, Golam Sarwar Tushar has no movable or immovable assets of his own. His entire annual income comes from the so-called writing. Although he identifies as a writer, no information about any of his books was found among local voters or in literary circles. This issue of earning income from writing without books has created curiosity among the public.”

Inside the photocard featuring Golam Sarwar Tushar’s photo, it reads, “Strange act of bookless ‘writer’ Tushar! This HSC-pass Tushar has no books, yet earns lakhs from ‘writing’!” At the bottom of the card is the logo of Ajker Kontho. On the lower right, it says “Details in comments,” and on the left is the website address of the page. On the top left of the photocard, the date “02 January 2026” is written.

The same photo card was also posted with the same claim from multiple personal profiles (1, 2) and groups (1, 2) page on Facebook.

A very similar photocard was also shared from the official page of Awami League leader and former MP of the Dhaka-17 constituency, Mohammad Ali Arafat. Many elements of that card match the Daily Ajker Kontho card. Only the word “Kontho” is replaced with “Kotha” on this card. The top logo and the website links at the bottom are also different. This Ajker Kotha card does not have the text “Details in comments.” In the caption of the former MP’s post, he wrote, “Now you understand.”

During verification, however, Dismislab found five published books, available on the online shopping website Rokomari, by Tushar. Among them, two books were co-authored by Golam Sarwar Tushar and another writer, Sohul Ahmed. The names of these two books are “Somoyer Bebocched” and “Maran-Rajniti.” The book “Somoyer Bebocched” was published in 2019 by Granthik Publishing. In 2024, the book “Maran-Rajniti” was published by Adarsha Publishing. The subject of both books is contemporary politics in Bangladesh.

Multiple books authored by Sarwar Tushar are found on the online retail platform Rokomari.

The remaining three books were written solely by Sarwar Tushar. One book is titled “Chhatra-Jonotar July Obbhutthan: Antorborti Bhabna.” This book, written on the July mass uprising, was published in 2025 by Granthik Publishing. Another book is titled “Chintar Orchestra,” which is a collection of five interviews. This book was published in 2023 by Granthik Publishing.

Another book is titled “Palestine: A History of 21st Century Colonialism.” This book is written on Middle Eastern history. It was published in 2025 by The University Press Limited (UPL). In all three books, the author’s name is used as Sarwar Tushar.

In addition to Rokomari, books written by Golam Sarwar Tushar can also be found on multiple (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) other book-selling e-commerce platforms. Moreover, three books published by Granthik Publishing are available on the publisher’s website.

Books by Sarwar Tushar are also listed on the websites of Granthik Publishing and Batighar.

Another book by Sarwar Tushar, published by Magic Lantern Publishing, was also found during verification. The book titled “Communalism, Power, and Politics” was co-written with Sohul Ahmed. This book explains how communalism becomes a political strategy.

Therefore, the claim that Golam Sarwar Tushar has no published books is not true.

Notably, to participate in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, NCP leader Golam Sarwar Tushar submitted his nomination papers and affidavit on December 29. He submitted the nomination as a candidate of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the Narsingdi-2 (Palash) constituency. On January 1, after scrutiny of the nomination papers, the Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Anwar Hossain declared his nomination valid.
