A video circulating on Facebook claims that the army raided the home of National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah and detained three people. However, a fact-check by Dismislab shows the claim is false. The footage is from a joint forces operation in Savar on February 9, during which three people, including a central leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal, were arrested.

A video spreading on Facebook carries the text, “Army raid on NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah’s house: Three arrested with weapons.” The 1:02‑minute clip shows army personnel conducting a search and recovering weapons. The caption repeats the same claim.

The video has been viewed more than 71,000 times and shared nearly 500 times. Commenters responded as though the claim were true, with one writing, “Hasnat Abdullah must be brought under the law. The law is equal for all.” Another commented, “Whoever commits a crime must be punished.”

To verify the footage, Dismislab conducted a reverse image search of key frames and found a matching video on the Instagram handle of the daily Ittefaq, titled, “Army detains three terrorists with arms and ammunition in Savar.” The same report was found on ATN Bangla’s Facebook page and Star News’ YouTube channel. The scenes in these 1:37‑minute videos match the viral clip exactly. The original footage also shows army personnel taking several suspects into custody — a portion that was cut out before the shorter video was circulated with the false claim about Hasnat Abdullah’s home.

A keyword search found multiple news reports (1,2) on the incident. According to Bangladesh Pratidin, on February 9 this year, the army raided a house in the Talta area of Chapain Road in Savar and arrested three individuals with three foreign pistols, a large cache of local weapons, and ammunition. Among those arrested was SM Galib Imtiaz Nahid, former JCD leader at Jahangirnagar University and joint general secretary of the central Swechchhasebak Dal, an affiliate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

In short, the video showing the arrest of a Swechchhasebak Dal leader in Savar is being falsely circulated as footage of an army search at Hasnat Abdullah’s residence.Previously, the same video was shared with a different false claim — that a central Shibir leader had been arrested — a claim Dismislab also debunked in an earlier fact-check.
