A video has spread on the social media platform Facebook. It claims that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has been accused of defrauding people with disabilities and low-income communities through a Family Card. However, Dismislab’s fact-check found that the Family Card referenced in the allegation is not the Family Card promised in BNP’s election manifesto. Rather, it is a Family Card titled “Shomaj Sheba” (Social Service) issued by a private volunteer organization named the Bangladesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association (BESWA).

Recently, a page named “BD Tiger” posted a 1 minute 19 second video with the caption: “The extortionists called BNP are accused of an innovative fraud against people with disabilities and low-income communities in the name of the Family Card.”

In the video, a reporter holding a microphone is heard saying, “Through the Family Card, the Shomaj Sheba Family Card, goods worth 1,222 taka are being sold for 1,150 taka. Here people are being told that the goods are worth 1,550 taka. But we calculated it ourselves, and the current retail price comes to 1,222 taka. People are being deceived here.” The reporter in the video then interviews several buyers. Some of them are heard complaining that the price of the products provided through the Family Card is higher.

In addition to “BD Tiger,” the video was also uploaded from multiple Facebook accounts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). In the captions of these videos as well, the allegation regarding the Family Card is claimed to be against BNP. In some posts, instead of writing “allegation,” the caption directly claims, “BNP’s Family Card fraud against people with disabilities and low-income communities (1, 2, 3).”

During verification, Dismislab searched relevant keywords and found a 3 minute 44 second video posted on February 9 on a page named “Mojahid Live.” The first 1 minute 19 seconds of that video exactly matches the circulated clip. However, there is no mention of BNP there. The caption of the video states: “Allegation of innovative fraud against people with disabilities and low-income communities in the name of the Family Card.” The reporter in the video mentions that the name of the card is the “Shomaj Sheba Family” card.

To learn more details, Dismislab contacted a mobile number listed on that page. A man named Mohammad Mojahid said that he operates the “Mojahid Live” Facebook page. When asked who was distributing the Family Card in question, Mojahid, who described himself as a journalist, said: “There is an organization of retired army members; the Shomaj Sheba Family Card belongs to that organization.”

When asked whether any information had been found showing that the activity was connected to BNP or that any BNP member was involved, he said: “No, I did not find any connection between them and BNP.”

A short while later, Mohammad Mojahid sent Dismislab a link to a Facebook Live video he had made about the same incident. The video is 13 minutes and 27 seconds long. In it, he can be seen interviewing several buyers. He also mentions some detailed information during the live broadcast.

From 1 minute 30 seconds to the 2 minute mark in the video, he says: “Only two days remain before the election. Now the products that are being distributed in the name of the Family Card—questions have arisen in the public mind about whether this is the same Family Card that BNP had announced in its election schedule, saying they would provide a Family Card. In reality, they are saying here that this is not any Family Card declared by the BNP. This is an apolitical organization, an organization of retired army officers. They provide services to people here.”

Elsewhere in the same video, Mojahid interviews retired army officer Moazzem Hossain. At one point in the interview, when asked whether the organization named “Shomaj Sheba” is connected with any political organization, Moazzem Hossain replies: “No, no, it is an apolitical organization. Completely an apolitical organization.”

For further verification, Dismislab collected photos and videos of the Family Card issued by the organization named “Shomaj Sheba” from Mohammad Mojahid.

At the top of the card, the words “Shomaj Sheba” are written, with a logo on the left side. Beneath it is written “Family Card. Working for people is our objective.” Mohammad Mojahid also sent a video showing the list of goods provided through that Family Card.

In the next stage of verification, Dismislab contacted the mobile number printed on the other side of the card and spoke with the organization’s dealer, Rafiqul Islam. When asked whether the organization had any connection with the BNP, he said: “No. Actually, this is the Bangladesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association, BESWA Trust.”

He added: “BNP Chairperson Tarique Zia mentioned the Family Card only a few days ago. Our activities have been running for about six months already. Now how could we know that Tarique Zia would talk about a Family Card?”

He said that the scheduled date for distributing their goods had already arrived. That is why they went to distribute them that day. He said: “We had also been thinking that we would not distribute the goods. But if the date had passed, it would have been a deception, so we distributed the goods.”

Rafiqul Islam also sent Dismislab a price list similar to the one sent earlier by journalist Mohammad Mojahid. At the top of the price list, it reads: “Bangladesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association (BESWA).”

The institution’s registration number is 65/15 Trust. Beneath it is written: “A non-political voluntary self-employment-oriented organization.”

Additionally, Rafiqul Islam sent Dismislab a photograph of an authorization letter issued by the Bangladesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association assigning responsibility to retired Senior Warrant Officer Md. Moazzem Hossain for distributing ration at low prices. The letter bears the signature of the organization’s chairman, retired Captain Md. Ali Noeb.

The authorization letter lists October 10, 2025 as the date on which Md. Moazzem Hossain was approved to distribute ration at reduced prices. On the other hand, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) mentioned the inclusion of providing a Family Card in its election manifesto in November.

In other words, the Family Card mentioned in the video’s allegation is not the Family Card promised by BNP. Rather, it is a “Shomaj Sheba” Family Card issued by a private volunteer organization named the Bangladesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association (BESWA).
