A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) falsely claims that Jamaat-e-Islami supporters attacked Hindus in Bangladesh after the party’s defeat in the February 12 election.

The 28-second clip, shared on February 14 by the verified account Hindutva Don (archive link), shows a mob dragging and assaulting a man. The caption reads: “Islamists have started attacking Hindus in Bangladesh after Jamaat-e-Islami lost Elections.” As of the filing of the main report (Bangla), the video has been viewed more than 36,000 times and shared over 1,000 times.

A reverse image search reveals that the video first appeared on the Facebook page ‘Daily Fulki’ on December 31, 2025. It claimed the man was attacked for shouting the ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan at the funeral of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. A comparison of the two videos confirms that the first 28 seconds of the video shared on X match the earlier footage.

The ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan is associated with the Awami League party, which was toppled through a mass uprising in August 2024.

Further investigation found that multiple media outlets (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) reported the incident, confirming it involved a man being attacked for shouting ‘Joy Bangla’ at Khaleda Zia’s funeral. However, the man’s identity remains unclear.

News reports on the main incident.

This confirms that the circulating video is six weeks old and has been misrepresented as an attack on Hindus following Jamaat’s election defeat.
